PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Can you believe May is here? Although the year has flown by, I continue to enjoy every minute. A couple weeks ago I spoke to the first grade about being a principal. One student asked me, “How many kids do you have?” I responded with “680.” It was great to see their wide eyes and open mouths in shock. I wish you could have been there. The teachers and I chuckled. I explained to the first graders that in a way all the students at OES are my children. My favorite things about OES are the students. We have incredible teachers and fabulous parents! However, the students have a soft spot in my heart. I enjoy being around them each and everyday.
THANK YOU for supporting our Walk-a-thon! We were grateful for a sunny day and warm weather. Each child was given a water bottle. Although a few children had more water on the outside than inside, we all had fun. I had a blast walking, talking and laughing with OES children. We raised $1,800.00 that will be put towards computers for our computer lab. We are grateful for your generous contributions!
Your students read an amazing amount of minutes this year! For March and April, our school read 420,000 minutes. Way to go! Miss B will be spending some time on the roof to congratulate the students. We exceeded our year-end goal of 1,500,000 minutes read this year!!! Incredible!!! I am very impressed!!! Keep it up! Continue reading in May and throughout the summer.
A few reminders to put on your calendar this month: Our School Community Council (SCC) will be having an important and short meeting for parents on Wednesday, May 19th, at 6:00p (before the Kindergarten Program at 6:30pm). SCC elections will be held for the 2010-2011 year. Field Day will be a common day (9:15a-3:30p), Friday, May 21st. We need parent helpers. Look for a note going home soon. Thursday, May 27th, will be 6th grade graduation, and the last day of school will be from 9:15–10:45am.
Our PTA is the BEST in the state! I am grateful for our PTA president, Toni Carlson, and her PTA Board who have spent countless hours serving OES. I appreciate their dedication and willingness to help. I have enjoyed working with them. OES is blessed to have an incredible PTA. Thank you so much!
Thank you again for making my first year at OES a memorable one. I love OES and am extremely grateful to be here! I hope you have a fabulous summer! Keep on reading and be sure to make lots of fun memories with your family.
Enjoy the sun!
